Choose right over easy

‘Choose right over easy’ really embodies my journey to the UK. While it wasn’t an easy path, the resulting resilience and perspective continue to guide me today.

The same principle informs my work at the Apax Foundation. Asking the right questions ensures that funding leads to meaningful, long-term impact. My goal is to open doors of opportunity for others, just as doors were opened for me.

My journey helped shape the empathetic grant-maker I strive to be, someone committed to choosing right over easy.

Sonia's Story

Sonia has worked in the non-profit sector for over 12 years, beginning as a literacy intervention coordinator in an under-resourced public school in Harlem. Witnessing poverty alongside extraordinary wealth in New York shaped her commitment to advancing social mobility through philanthropy. Inspired by her grandparents rebuilding their lives after war and her parents pursuing opportunity across the Atlantic, she believes philanthropy can expand life chances for others. Apax’s focus on social mobility and social entrepreneurs drew her to the firm as a place to help drive meaningful change.
