Living our values

I was born and grew up as a child in Nairobi, Kenya. The culture was warm and hospitable and life was a blessing, but it could also be unpredictable. I recall in 1982, when I was 10, there was an attempted military coup d’etat in the country. I was hiding in a bathroom at the back of our home with my mother and younger brother - while gunshots rattled outside and soldiers patrolled the streets. My father fronted the house so that he could be the first point of contact for any intruder. We only got through that time, because we were there, together, and for each other. A well known African proverb says “ If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”. It is for this reason that the Apax value “we succeed as one global team” really resonates with me.

Alykhan's Story

Alykhan was drawn to Apax by the opportunity to help co-lead the Apax Impact team, building on the long standing and authentic Impact heritage of the firm. The global nature of Apax and diversity of its people resonated with his own background, having lived in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Alykhan grew up in a family of immigrants who settled in East Africa. Forging a life as newcomers in an environment full of change meant a lot of knocks. To prosper, you required constant hustle, entrepreneurial spark, and the ability to always pick yourself up, lock arms with your colleagues, and look to the future with with hope, optimism and a healthy dose of steely determination. Alykhan looks to bring this energy and spirit to Apax.
