Apax staff 'matching' scheme
Our matching scheme is designed to encourage and
support our team's personal involvement with charities close to
their hearts.
We make a 'matching' donation of at least £5,000 to
any charity which benefits from the significant, active, ongoing
involvement of any member of our team in any of our regions.
Since the scheme's inception in 2007, we have made
donations totalling £850,000 in support of the time and skills
given by our people to a range of charities worldwide.

Specialist, Apax Partners London
Age UK is one the UK's best-known charities working
to improve life for older people.
Lizzie does voluntary work through the charity one
day a week, visiting a resident who has no family at a care home in
Stepney, and spending time with other residents who lack
companionship.
The Apax Foundation's donation in support of
Lizzie's work will go towards buying interactive video equipment
for the care home, to help stimulate dementia sufferers.

After his MBA at INSEAD in 2009, Moritz and his
wife, Camille, spent six weeks working as teachers at an elementary
school in the slums of Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso,
the 5th poorest country in the world. They were placed there
through Amitié et Développement, a non-profit organisation which
finances small construction projects in Burkina Faso such as school
classrooms, a mill for a village, a well. Amitié et Développement
has no employees: its work is carried out entirely by
volunteers.
Although Moritz is now back in a suit at his desk
in Munich, he is continuing his involvement with Amitié et
Développement and plans to return to Burkina Faso in a year or
two's time.
He says: "It was a quite remarkable experience -
not only for us but also for the children and teachers. None of
them had ever been outside Burkina Faso, and visitors from Europe
are rare, so for most of them we were their first contact with the
'outside' world."

The Opportunity Network aims to level the playing
field for high-potential, low-income high school and college
students by creating access for them to career opportunities,
professional networks and college.
Jason Wright is a member of Opportunity Network's
board and also serves as its Treasurer. His commitment led other
colleagues in Apax's New York office to become involved - a number
of them organised events or made donations and Michael Meng, an
Associate in the New York office, helped Opportunity Network's
Executive Director with financial analysis.

The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment is one of
the UK's premier orchestras, particularly renowned for its
interpretation of the late 17th through to early 19th century
repertoire and playing on period instruments to bring out the music
as it was intended to be heard.
David Marks has been a member of the Orchestra's
Development Board since 2008. The Apax Foundation's donation in
support of his involvement goes towards the OAE's education and
outreach work which aims to enhance appreciation of music and
encourage creativity and active participation in the arts,
particularly among young people.

Room to Read is an international organisation which
builds schools in the developing world in partnership with local
communities.
Irene Liebler and her husband, Hans, helped to
establish Room to Read in Germany in 2006. As they had already been
sponsoring the education of two girls in Nepal for some years, they
chose that country for the new school which their Room to Read
division would support. As well as continuing to organise
fundraising activities for the school in Nepal and now a second
school in Vietnam, Irene has activated her network to inspire
others to become involved and, as a result, a new Room to Read
division is being established in Frankfurt.

Mitch serves as Chairman of the Board of
StreetSquash, a charity in Harlem, New York providing support to
underprivileged children. At risk children are selected by their
schools to join the programme, which teaches the children squash
and also, more importantly, improves their academic and social
prospects through one-to-one mentoring and involvement in community
service projects.
To date, every one of the high school students to
have gone through the programme has graduated or is on course to
graduate in the standard four years and all have gained acceptance
to college.
