Geofizyka Torun Adds the Paradigm Common Reflection Angle Migration Technology to its Depth Imaging Processing Centre in Poland

17 April 2013

Paradigm ( announced today that Geofizyka Torun ( has licensed Paradigm's Common Reflection Angle Migration (CRAM) technology for use at their Depth Imaging Processing Centre in Poland. Additionally, both Geofizyka Torun and Paradigm have agreed to collaborate on defining and publishing new workflows for the exploration of unconventional shale gas reserves in Poland using Paradigm's innovative EarthStudy 360® full azimuth imaging technology. With this agreement, Geofizyka Torun and Paradigm will be demonstrating clear leadership with this technology in the market for unconventional resources in Europe.

"With EarthStudy 360 applied to surface recorded seismic data, we are able to deliver a much better product compared to standard 3D imaging", said Jerzy Trela, Geofizyka Torun COO. "Reliable attributes estimated using EarthStudy 360 can help define sweet spots for unconventional prospects, as well as provide effective support to decisions about horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing. Together, these significantly reduce prospect uncertainty. Following our comprehensive and successful evaluation, in which we ran full-azimuth, anisotropic imaging on the first 3D shale gas seismic survey in Poland, Geofizyka Torun now plans to process the next shale gas seismic project with support from Paradigm. Dedicated workflows in the angle-depth domain for analyzing prestack data in full azimuth are innovative and effective solutions, and are also useful for conventional targets."

CRAM delivers superior depth images while preserving seismic amplitudes. EarthStudy 360 provides previously unattainable levels of subsurface knowledge through its ability to image, characterize, visualize and interpret the total seismic wavefield, from all angles and all azimuths. The EarthStudy 360 technology has already been successfully used in Saudi Arabia, Russia, Asia, Latin America and North America.

"Paradigm is pleased to work with a recognized leader such as Geofizyka Torun to further develop unconventional shale gas exploration in Poland," said Mark Littman, Paradigm's sales director for Northern Europe. "Poland is a rapidly growing market for these types of plays in Europe, and we believe our innovative full-azimuth imaging technology will help unlock the full potential in this region."

Users can learn more about Paradigm's Processing and Imaging solutions at its upcoming User Group Meeting in Krakow, Poland, April 23 and 24, 2013.
