Apax Partners focused initial interest in Princeton Softech because we recognized that there would be growing demand for intelligent enterprise data management solutions. Princeton Softech was already a leader in this emerging space and had succeeded in building revenue scale (roughly $30MM at the time of our investment) with a large installed base of Global 2000 customers. Princeton Softech was also active in Europe, which accounted for about a third of the company’s total revenue.
“The investment that Apax Partners’ Funds made in Princeton Softech represents a powerful endorsement of our business especially among our Global 2000 target client base. Apax Partners gave us the financial power to accelerate our marketing and business development plans, and the international network essential to the expansion of our market reach and revenue,” said Paul Winn, Chairman, President and CEO, Princeton Softech, Inc.
Apax Partners invested in the company in March 2002. Initially we helped Princeton Softech restructure its management team and business model. We also deployed our industry experience and network capabilities to recruit a new CEO, CFO, VP of Marketing and VP of Sales. In addition, we identified, recruited and retained independent Board members and Advisory Board members who had relevant industry backgrounds.
Apax Partners’ international presence is critical in the evaluation of potential acquisition targets in both the US and Europe. We have the ability to provide global strategic input, while leveraging our on-the-ground local presence in key markets. Our operating partners worked with Princeton Softech to help create and refine a strategy for developing and delivering application-specific versions of its core solutions for a larger installed base of ERP and CRM applications (such as Oracle, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, Seibel, Amdocs and others.)
“When Apax Partners’ Funds invested in Princeton Softech, the company was already an established leader in the database archiving space. We were able to deploy our industry network to strengthen their management expertise and utilize Apax Partners’ on-the-ground presence in local markets to help the company build product distribution by securing key partnerships and alliances. We have been very successful in working with Princeton Softech to fortify its position as the leader in enterprise application data management,” said Greg Case, Partner, Apax Partners.
